ONLY Auction

This Patek Philippe Ref. 5208T-010 sold for $6,226,311.48 in the ONLY watch auction for charity.

The biennial ONLY charity auction held in Monaco today to raise funds for muscular dystrophy realized a final tally of $10,822,580 (CHF 10,776,500), 99% of which is contributed to AMM, an association that funds research on Duchenne, a rare form of the disease. Since the auction began 14 years ago, the biennial event has raised more than $40-million. Fifty watch companies supported the cause this year by creating unique timepieces and donating them. The involvement of Christie’s also represents a donation – there is no buyers’ premium and no reserve on the watches sold.

Many of the watches sold for under $100,000, which represents something of a bargain for collectors, considering that every watch in the sale is a unique piece – the ONLY one of its kind, hence the title of the auction. However, there were some sought-after rarities in the sale and several went for over that amount and more. The star of the auction was a Patek Philippe Ref. 5208T-010, selling for $6,226,311.48 (CHF 6,200,000), a triple complication with chronograph, instantaneous perpetual calendar and minute repeater. The case is titanium, which has never been used before on this reference and rarely used by Patek Philippe at all. The buyer will be invited to a private lunch with company president Thierry Stern and a visit to the company’s Geneva manufacture and museum.
