Valley West 10-12 All-Stars open Section 6 play Saturday

The Valley West Little League 10-12-year-old All-Stars will open Section 6 Tournament action Saturday in Stroudsburg.

The newly-crowned District 18 champions will take on Lehigh Little League at 2 p.m. All games are at the Creekview Park Facility on North Fifth Street. Saturday’s first game pits host Stroudsburg against Warwick at 11 a.m.

The four-team, double-elimination tournament continues Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, with an “if” game scheduled for Wednesday if necessary. The Section 6 champion moves on to the state tournament July 23-29 at the Christy Mathewson Little League in District 17.

Carone’s Market 5

CJ Albertson laced a triple and single and scored twice to lead Knights of Columbus to victory. Andrew Burns singled twice and Austin Sando had a base hit for the winners.

Edward Yanac singled, walked and scored twice for Carone’s. Gabe Yanuzzi singled, walked and scored, and Christian Smith reached base twice and scored two times.

Jeddo Stars 9

Carone’s Market 7

Corrigan Nolasco went 3-for-4 with two singles and an inside-the-park home run to power Jeddo Stars to the win.

John Dropnock went 2-for-3 with two singles and two RBI, and Austyn Attardo was 3-for-3 and drove in two runs for the Stars.

Dave Shrader paced Carone’s, going 3-for-4 and driving in a run. Bruce Hopeck was 2-for-2 with a double and single, and Gabe Yanuzzi had two singles.

Junior Legion

Tournament

Stripes & Strikes will be the top seed for this week’s Wyoming Valley American Legion baseball playoff tournament to be played at the Hazle Township Field at the intersection of Hazle Township Boulevard and Ballpark Drive.

Greater Pittston won the regular season championship at will represent the WVAL as the No. 1 seed at next weekend’s regional tournament in Berwick. The winner of the league tournament will be the No. 2 seed and will travel to Boyertown.

The four-team tournament will begin today, with No. 4 Mountain Post facing No. 1 Stripes & Strikes at 3 p.m. Today’s second game will feature No. 2 Back Mountain against No. 3 Swoyersville at 5:30.

The winners will play Friday at 3 p.m., and the losers at 5:30 p.m. Saturday’s loser’s bracket final is set for noon, followed by the championship game at 3 p.m. The “if” game is slated for Sunday at 1 p.m.

Kyle Osifat slugged a home run and two singles, Jeremy Moser singled three times, and Steph Yurchak and McHugh had two singles each for Weatherly-based Longhi Financial.

For Conyngham, Harry had a home run and Dancher singled.

Polanco and Keselicka both had a double and single, Osifat singled twice and Keil pitched well for the winners.

Lobitz doubled and Marchetti singled for Hazleton.

Hazleton 8

Led by Scott Mooney’s two triples and Brady Williams’ double and single, Valley East outlasted Hazleton. Frank Fallabel added three hits, including a triple, and Leo Ventra had four hits and scored three runs.

Also for Valley East, Gabe Shutt, Gavin Natt, Gavin Lagowy and Wil Gould all had three hits. Mooney ended the game with an unassisted double play.

Hazleton’s Diaz and Colon combined for five hits, each lacing a triple.
