GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) — An electronic manufacturing company is experiencing tremendous growth, thanks to what its CEO calls “onshoring.”

Firstronic expects to hire 115 people in the next few months, mostly entry-level jobs, with another 100 jobs likely the year after.

John Sammut, CEO of the company at 1655 Michigan NE, says not only are they doing work once performed in Asia and India, they’re exporting electronic circuit boards back to those countries.

“We’re seeing a role reversal where manufacturing: We weren’t as competitive as we used to be, saw the jobs migrate off shore. Now we’re bringing them back and enabling the local economy to grow,” Sammut told WZZM 13.

Grand Rapids city commissioners Tuesday approved incentives to support the company’s growth; state officials approved incentives last month.
