The French sailmaker Incidences Sails has acquired D4® Technology, until then owned by the German manufacturer Dimension POLYANT. Then Incidences Technologies has been created to support the manufacture of D4 ® on one side, and also to develop future membranes for the entire Group. The company objectives are clear: to continue providing efficient and innovative solutions for customers’ sails, while controlling manufacturing steps from design to production. It will also be an excellent opportunity to involve customers in the development of future membranes.

Acquisition and Manufacturing

As of January 1st, 2014, Incidences Technologies takes up D4® manufacturing, as its intellectual property owned since 2004 by Dimension-POLYANT (Kempen, Germany). Incidences Sails group as a whole will thus benefit from this new structure to produce, master and develop this technology internationally known. Since June 2013, Eng. Morgane Paix is actively working on the implementation of the new structure: “I have been working for Incidences Sails for a year now, and when the group decided to acquire this technology, they asked me to look after the repatriation of the plant. I have been in charge of the plant building, and now we are working on bringing the machines to La Rochelle” explains Morgan, who will then be responsible for the production of D4 ®.

To enable the best technology and skills’ transfer, each employee will be required to attend a training in its respective position at Dimension POLYANT. The period of the transfer of production tools and skills spread over November and December, after the start of the Transat Jacques Vabre and before the resumption of the 2014 season.

Research and Development

The role of Incidences Technologies will not be limited to the production of D4 ®. The company will also host a new Research and Development team for the group. “Our hope is eventually to develop this product. We now enjoy a structure internally to develop future membranes, based on the experience gained in contact with the greatest skippers of offshore racing, “says Yannick Richomme, President of Incidences Sails.

To this end, Stéphane Fauve, engineer with over 8 years of experience in sailmaking, including two years developing upscale membranes, will be responsible of Development at Incidences Sails. “Firstly, I will be in charge of optimizing the D4 and I also take care of other studies that we want to follow on membranes. With the support of engineering departments of Brest and La Rochelle, as well as specialized external agencies, we want to work more on the membranes, fibers and development tools. ”

The company will be based in La Rochelle (France), in a new building under construction.
