GE Appliances Moves Dryer Production From Mexico to Kentucky in $1 Billion Louisville Investment
On September 2, 2026, GE Appliances and the IUE-CWA union announced a $1 billion investment in Appliance Park in Louisville, Kentucky, which the company says will create the largest home appliance manufacturing site in the United States. More than $400 million of that total goes to rebuilding Building 5 into a high-output dryer operation, and GE Appliances states the purpose plainly: it is “bringing production from Mexico to Kentucky.”
The rest of the package is $112 million for equipment and redesign in Building 1, plus the previously announced $490 million in Building 2, the washer and washer/dryer combo line that GE Appliances moved back from China and that is already covered on this site. Taken together, the two moves relocate a full laundry pair to a single U.S. site from two different offshore locations. The company says the investment secures 4,700 production jobs at Appliance Park.
The timeline is worth noting for anyone tracking how long a real reshoring move takes: refrigeration production in Building 5 concludes in early 2027, the building transformation runs 9 to 12 months, and dryer production begins in late 2027. That is roughly a year and a half from announcement to first unit, on a line the company already owns, in a plant it already operates.
