HVHC, Inc., the largest wholly owned and operated U.S.-based optical company and a leader in “reshoring” – regenerating manufacturing jobs in the U.S. – will open a new state-of-the-art facility in San Antonio. It will be the company’s second in the area and fifth in the U.S. The new 120,000-square-foot manufacturing and distribution facility, to be located on the west side of San Antonio on Richland Hills Drive, is set to open in late 2013.
With the new lab will come up to 600 new jobs to the San Antonio area. Once fully operational, the facility will custom make more than 2 million pairs of eyeglasses annually. This output is on par with that of HVHC’s original San Antonio area manufacturing lab in suburban Schertz. The new facility will custom make eyeglasses for Visionworks stores and its customers nationwide. It is also a continuation of HVHC’s commitment to supporting San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro’s SA2020 development initiative for the city.

In 2012, HVHC relocated its corporate headquarters of national optical retailer Visionworks (formerly Eye Care Centers of America) and the New York-based operations of Davis Vision, its managed vision care arm, to downtown San Antonio. HVHC will also expand its downtown headquarters by leasing additional space at the IBC Centre and will create 150 more jobs in San Antonio’s center city.
