A study commissioned by the New England Council released Tuesday looks at infrastructure planning across the region, citing Southern Maine as a prime location for “home-shoring.”
That concept — a play on “off-shoring” — is one of many proposed for the region in the study authored by consultants at Deloitte.
Along with the southern portion of the state, the study identified the I-91 corridor through New Hampshire and Massachusetts and Rhode Island’s Blackstone Valley Corridor as potential locations for manufacturing and distribution facilities as part of a regional economic strategy.
The study also cites the 80% of Maine homes heated with oil in making a case for regional investments in natural gas transmission. The study also ranks Maine as the lowest percentage producer of renewable energy in New England, by 2011 figures.
