More than 100 companies at the recently concluded International Home and Housewares Show in Chicago showed products made in the United States, illustrating that the trend of “reshoring” manufacturing jobs back to the U.S. is taking hold.
Studies show American consumers prefer products that are made in America over those made abroad, especially in China, for reasons including patriotism and product safety, according to The Gourmet Retailer.
The practical part of the decision lies in reduced transportation costs and an improved response time to customer orders. Dozens of companies across many industries have brought back manufacturing or stopped short of moving production overseas once they looked at the cost/benefit ratio, according to the National Reshoring Initiative.
