The College of Lake County, Illinois Manufacturer’s Association, Medusa Consulting Group and U.S. Rep. Robert Dold, R-Kenilworth, are collaborating to hold a Manufacturing and Educational Conference entitled “Bridging the Gap between Education and Industry” on April 11 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at ETA Cuisenaire, 500 Greenview Court, Vernon Hills.

Immediately following the conference is the Midwest Reshoring Luncheon and Manufacturing Career Expo sponsored by Medinah-based Medusa Consulting Group. The lunch will feature guest speaker Harry Moser, former president of Lincolnshire-based GF Agie Charmilles and founder of the national Reshoring Initiative, speaking on “Bringing Manufacturing Back to America.”

The Manufacturing Career Expo will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. It will showcase manufacturers seeking qualified employees, industry associations, and education and training providers. It is open to job seekers at no charge, but pre-registration is advised.

“What makes this Manufacturing Career Expo unique from so many other job fairs is it offers job seekers both manufacturing jobs as well as the opportunity to find the training and education required to get those jobs,“ explained Rand Haas, president of Medusa Consulting Group, a consulting firm specializing in manufacturing. “This event is designed to bridge the gap between manufacturers and the education and training organizations”

Jim Nelson, vice president of the Illinois Manufacturer’s Association, noted that too often job openings go unfilled because people do not possess the skills required to operate today’s sophisticated high-tech equipment.

“In fact, it isn’t unusual to hear of manufacturers pouring through hundreds of resumes and interviewing 50 to 80 applicants to find just one qualified person,” Nelson added. “This Manufacturing Career Expo will help link workers not only with companies looking for workers, but training providers who are anxious to help those needing training to get that education.”
