The new machines will allow Skar to produce even more components
Suffolk based Skar Precision Mouldings has installed two new plastic injection moulding machines to upgrade its capacity and produce even more components for medical, engineering, point of sale and retail.
The Romi EN 300 and EN 70 replace older technology which were taken on second-hand through acquisition of other plastic moulders.
Paul Denny, operations director, Skar Precision Mouldings, said: “The two new machines replace a 1986 Sandretto and an ageing Arburg and will give us greater control and reduce our energy usage. The capital cost and running costs were very convincing,” says at the trade plastic injection moulding business in Hadleigh, Suffolk.
Skar is a company which has to handle work from a wide range of customers and it can be involved in product design, tooling, manufacture, assembly, pad printing, inserting, storage and delivery.
More recently, Skar helped a kitchenware firm to bring its manufacturing operation back to the UK from China.
Peta UK makes Easi-Grip garden tools, kitchen knives and other utensils. It approached Skar to help it reshore all of the manufacturing of its range of kitchen knives, after it joined the ‘Made in Britain’ campaign – an initiative that supports and promotes British manufacturing. Skar improved the existing tooling to suit the new operation and in the process trimmed production lead times.
Skar’s services include injection moulding, mould tool design, plastic molding materials and product design support. It holds both ISO 9001 quality and ISO 14001 environmental certification.
