BLACKSBURG, Va. (WDBJ7) Police are on the scene right now of a drug lab in Blacksburg.
Officers say they searched the home on Progress Street this morning after a drug investigation by the New River Regional Drug Task Force.
The task force says they believe dimethyltryptamine, a psychedelic compound, was being made in the home.
The home was evacuated when officers found the lab and the HazMat team was called in.
Officers plan to be on scene for the next few hours.

On this date, at approximately 9:15 am, Blacksburg Police, assisted by the Virginia State Police, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Christiansburg Police, and Virginia Tech Police; executed a search warrant at 711 Progress Street for the New River Regional Drug Task Force (NRRDTF). The search warrant was a result of a drug investigation conducted by the NRRDTF in reference to manufacturing of Dimethyltryptamine (DMT), a schedule 1 drug.
A drug lab was encountered and for safety precautions, the entire residence was evacuated. A Hazardous Materials (Haz-Mat) team was on the scene as well as assets from Blacksburg and Riner Fire Departments and Blacksburg Rescue. Police, Fire, Haz-Mat, and Rescue personnel are still on scene and removal of the lab is on-going. The process is expected to take several hours.
No residents have reported any symptoms or injuries.
The investigation is on-going.
