Production of high-quality kitchenware has returned to the UK from China with the help of an East Anglian injection moulding and tooling firm.
Peta UK, based in Essex, reshored the manufacturing of its revamped Easi-Grip range of kitchen knives, having become members of the ‘Made in Britain’ campaign.
The group already made much of its products in the UK, but said it wanted to show a further commitment to quality and so worked with Skar Precision Mouldings of Hadleigh, Suffolk, to ship tooling back from China.
Genny Crockett, Peta UK’s managing director, said the tooling was assessed by Skar’s technical staff, with some work being carried out by the firm to give a more consistent finish.
Problems could be solved with the nearby Skar team as they arose, she added, while lead times were also reduced.
Skar’s technical sales director Brian McLellan said his company had worked with Peta UK for a number of years and was “extremely enthusiastic” about reshoring production back to the UK.
“This has been one of a number of projects that we have brought back to the UK this year, which in all cases made commercial sense for our customers,” he added.
