  • A 1-0 win over Bayer 04 Leverkusen on Matchday 17 was celebrated like a title, and maybe that game could be the turning point in an otherwise disappointing season so far for Werder Bremen
  • Santiago Garcia’s (l.) goal has an entire region dreaming of a resurgence in 2014
  • Work must be done on shoring up a leaky defence, though, if Bremen are to rise the table. Raphael Wolf conceded 14 in just three games.

Munich – Up to 2011, SV Werder Bremen were a staple in the UEFA Champions League. In the seven years from 2004, they only missed out once on a place in Europe’s elite club competition, playing instead in the UEFA Europa League in 2009/10.

Those days now seem like a distant memory. Instead, after a fairly promising start to life under Robin Dutt, much went awry in the first half of the season. However, as bundesliga.com explains, die Grün-Weißen may just have turned the corner on Matchday 17.
