In the last couple of years, high shipping costs have caused investors to re-shore; moving jobs back from overseas. Kuehl says that change is especially beneficial for smaller companies, like those that are feeders for the auto industry.
“They have employee bases between 20 and 500 employees, and that’s the heart and soul of communities. It’s the kind of job that lasts,” says Kuehl.
In May, LMV Automotive Systems in Liberty announced plans to invest close to $50 million and add 166 employees. Kuehl says the U.S. will never regain it’s top spot making cheap t-shirts or shoes, but we do crank out lots of consumer items.
