PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Hours away from their first live televised debate, Congressman David N. Cicilline and GOP challenger Brendan Doherty traded jabs over who was more sympathetic to American manufacturers’ needs.
Cicilline, at a press conference at North East Knitting in Pawtucket, criticized Doherty for supporting, on his campaign website, tax policies “encouraging companies to ship jobs overseas” such as a “repatriation holiday.”
Cicilline also released a new online campaign ad highlighting his proposed “Make it in America Block Grant Program Act.”
Doherty responded that the National Association of Manufacturers has rated Cicilline’s performance in Congress at 19 percent.
He also noted that Cicilline voted to maintain a 2.3 percent excise tax on medical devices, which he said would harm Rhode Island companies such as IlluminOss Medical, Inc. of East Providence.
