Volvo CE Delivers Its First U.S.-Built Excavators and Large Loaders
Volvo Construction Equipment announced on August 19, 2026, that it has delivered its first American-built excavators and larger wheel loaders to customers from its Shippensburg, Pennsylvania facility. More than 50 percent of the company's North American machine supply is now produced there, less than a year after it announced plans to localize more machine assembly.
This is a reshoring milestone worth noting for a specific reason: it is an announced localization that actually shipped. Eleven additional models will be produced in Shippensburg, bringing Volvo CE's North American production portfolio to 30 machine models across excavators, wheel loaders and compactors.
The operational payoff is the part most relevant to manufacturers weighing the same decision. Building closer to the customer shortens customer lead times by more than six weeks. Volvo CE cited a most recent investment of $40 million, part of more than $1.4 billion invested at the site since 2007 to triple annual output capacity. The company acquired the Shippensburg site from Ingersoll Rand in 2007, established its North American headquarters there in 2012, and now employs over 750 people at the location.
