Wildcats begin spring practice – Dothan Eagle

The centennial season of Enterprise High School football will not officially kickoff until the Wildcats visit Smiths Station on Aug. 30, but Coach David Faulkner got the initial workout for the 2013 team under way on Monday with the first of 13 spring practices.

Faulkner, who came to EHS prior to last season, welcomed 125 players to the first spring practice, up from 115 last year. Included in that number are 41 seniors, 15 more than a year ago.”Everyone is excited getting into the spring,” Faulkner said. “They’ve been in the weight room, doing conditioning. They’re ready to do some football. They’re ready to go.”

The Alabama High School Athletic Association allows for three helmet-only practices and 10 contact practices in the spring.

The Wildcats did more conditioning on their first day of spring practice.

“Our number one thing we look to do in the offseason is improve our physical and mental toughness,” Faulkner said. “We want to be more physical on both sides of the ball. We want to stop the run.”

Faulkner said the players will be able to work on some of the physical aspects during the spring practices with pads, then come back in the summer and work on shoring up the passing game.
